| Artist-in-residence possibilities? we would love to hear your ideas... The Pukka Studio Artist-in-Residence What do I envision? A home base to work from here in India for 2 weeks to a month- we have a studio with workspace, a big print/cutting table, a sewing machine [rather basic but useful for free style stitching], pigment inks for printing, painting, playing with fabric, discharge paste, some dyes for cotton or silk… A huge array of textiles from local sources, blockprinters locally, access to a lot more textile experiences within a day’s drive of here. I will have some easels made up soon, for painting, I have irregular access to electricity and a back-up generator. Computer with a basic printer but am looking to update the printer soon. If you need specific materials, I might be able to source them in India for you or you may need to bring them with you; lots to be discussed. Accommodation will be on site in our guest bedroom, meals ‘au familie’. In return I would like you to • cover your living expenses [about 1500 rp per day] whilst with us and of course your transport to us and any trips you make whilst here. • And offer a small workshop/experience to local people…this could take many forms and we can talk about it when planning. There are a number of charity schools around- a stitching or art workshop with some of the children over a few days might be a possibility, I would like to be able to draw some of the Ladies who stitch for me in The Stitching Project into a workshop or two awakening their design abilities or perhaps you might like to work with them to create a photo essay of their work…..obviously these are things we would need to discuss individually. • A small piece of your work to hang in our collection For those of you who are also teachers- an associated possibility is planning a week long workshop we can host at The Pukka Studio and offer to participants who will travel to us specifically for it. It could run at the end of your time with us, so you will have had time to settle into India, unwind and get your creative juices flowing. We will work out a remuneration for this as participants will pay fees….lots to be thought through still Things are coming along, there is still lots to do but we need to start somewhere [from my experience with Creative Arts Safaris people need 12-18 months dream time to join our groups] if the workshop ideas appeals we need to start chatting it up. I expect remuneration for a workshop would go a long way to helping offset your travel costs Best times to visit India weather wise High Tourist Season is September to March you are welcome anytime, but it can be quiet warm and if we are lucky- wet during the monsoon July/ August [it is totally gorgeous at that time ] |
