| Contempoaray Kantha Embroidery from West Bengal, India Silk background and cotton thread hand worked Contempoarary Kantha style embroidery designed by Mrs Alima stitch their pieces, thus providing work in their local community. Women stitch in the Khatun's home or take the work to their own home. All backing cloth is silk [either khadi handloom silk produced locally or Southern silk, mill made in South India] Stitch is using cotton threads. The Khatun's dye silk for the backgounds and cotton for the stitching, sometimes adding handblock print designs to the piece before stitching comences.
